Our first adventure on the "T"

Today we headed for the Cambridge area to look at Harvard, MIT and then down to Boston University. I think we did pretty well on public transportation given the fact that southern CA really does not have any real mass transit system. It was fun finding the correct tracks when switching train lines and we were impressed with the system.

Riding the "T" out to Cambridge.
At the gate entrance to Harvard Yard, the oldest part of the University Campus.

At Harvard Yard - There was lots of red brick on campus.

Climbing the steps to the Widener library.
Steve and Elena were able to talk their way into a one day pass in to the Library. No one is admitted that is not a student at Harvard. They took a quick look (and snuck this picture via cell phone) and Elena learned about reading microfilm from a student working at the library. Jill and Maddie sat on the steps and people watched.

One of the buildings on campus.
Elena found a perfect book!

This crazy guy was playing so many instruments at once!

Lunch at some tables near Harvard Yard.

After our visit to Harvard...
It was off to MIT.
MIT is located right on the Charles River with a great view.
Interesting sculptures and what a contrast in the architecture of the school.
We were able to get into a classroom in the math building.
Elena sees what it is like to sit in a university classroom.
Out in front of the campus.

Interesting numbers sculpture placed at MIT for its 150th anniversary.
Phone booth in the student center.

On the back side of the school on Vassar street was ....
The Stata Center..computer science and electrical engineering.
then back onto the T with One more stop... at Boston University.
We liked these buildings along the river. At Boston University.

This was a pedestrian bridge over Back street along the south side of the Charles River. It was a very nice view along this side of the river too.

We grabbed some pizza near B.U. at Sal's...very good with nice thin crust. Then it was back onto the T and to the North Station. After the walk from the station across the Charlestown Bridge, it was good to get back to our hotel and relax.
